Let's Try This Again.

Oh my goodness. Sweet little blog of mine how I have missed you. No excuses, I just have not been blogging at all as you can tell. I have posted quite often over at MMID, where I work as an Interior Designer, so feel free to catch up with me over there.

I really do love blogging here and sharing my design finds, interests, and ideas. I'm hoping to blog more regularly again. 2013 is looking promising so I think I might just make it happen.
Here are some happenings to show proof I'm still here:

So...In short...

Nora dressed up like a hot dog, which she loved.

 

We carved a pumpkin (which died approximately 48 hours later.)

oops.

 Celebrated Karmyn's birthday Halloween style.

 

 We also celebrated Thanksgiving a little early with my fam in town. How 'bout those turkey legs?

 The wing back is getting great use...it's where i am sitting now to write this!

Of course the dogs do join me on occasion.

 Then Christmas came, and we decked the house.

 We visited Sunset Hills in Greensboro for the ball lights hanging in the sky. So magical.

Crafts were made.

Cards were created.

 We had an elf, Jingles, visit us for December.

Treats were made.

And treats were packaged.

 I made my own treat tags this year!

Then we took a road trip to Memphis for Christmas.

We had a big Davis picture made.

 Houses were erected.

 Then in late January (last weekend) it snowed! 

This weekend we are getting ice, which I may add is not as fun.

Hopefully I won't fall off the cliff again but if I do...just look for me on my facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest, or last resort linkedin. Im around. :)

Wingback Repurposed

I am so excited! I just got my wingback in from the upholsterer and I love it! She did a great job, and while I originally started this up-cycle project as a learning  exercise, Im glad I forked over the money and let a professional work her magic. I did paint the legs myself!

It all started when I found this old clunker at Goodwill a few months ago for $15. I could not say no!

I decided I would learn the art of upholstery via my friend Ashley, who is a very skillful craftsman in this category. So I started the long, tedious, and sometime painful chore of stripping the old chair down to the frame. This took...forever. I suggest you try this at some point in your life. I was not a fan. But I knew it had to be done. There was no way I was keeping any of that old batting, fabric, or foam. Gross.  If you ever have any "found treasures" reupholstered, I strongly suggest talking with your upholsterer in detail. Many will only upholsterer over the old... which in my opinion is gross. There are all kinds of gross little creatures, smells, and dust living under the fabric. Plus, cushions break down over time and the form can get smushy due to that. So while your going through the hassel...do it right.

Then came the process of fabric shopping. I love taking advantage of living in the furniture capitol of the world. So much upholstery is done right here in the triad, mainly High Point of course, which makes the discount fabric stores amazing! 

I went a little overboard as usual and found some great prints....but settled on this wonderful Robert Allen geometric linen.

Well, turns out my bestie Ashley got the chance to move out West so I had to cut my upholstery lesson short. But there's plenty of time to learn! After calling around, I took my chair to a local upholsterer and she had it back to me in less than 2 weeks! Check out the transformation!

Project Coral

So I am working on a project at work for a high school senior's new bedroom. Her only request? Coral! So I began digging through Pinterest, and surprise, surprise... I found a ton of goodness.

When I look for inspiration, I not only look at interiors, but better yet, I like to look at fashion, nature, and even art. As cliche as it sounds, those things really get me thinking more than a space that has already been done before.

Coral goes great with so many colors. It's so fresh. I was surprised at how popular it has already become with the gray family. Those two are perfect together! We love it with aqua and are introducing pops of lime.
