Candi D: Young Girl's Clothing Line

I was able to work on a new project over the past few weeks for a local client. I was so excited when she contacted me because her concept was so unique! She is starting a clothing line for young girls and while it is fashion, I loved that it wasn't geared toward only girly girls. She wanted a fun, fresh logo that was simple yet reflected the brand name. After many different renditions, process work, and back and forth emails, we settled on this design and color scheme. I really love it.  What do you think?

Nora-isms: 002

These little sayings have made me and my Mom giggle since we first got Nora. There are no truer words! Boston's are full of so much personality and are hilarious. I really feel like this is their law to live by!

don't you agree? I whipped this little diddy up today as I thought about all my wonderful comrades and how thankful for the how much I get to see the ones who are close and how much I miss the one who are far away. You guys are the best.

A Happy Little Laundry Room

A few months ago, I decided to give my small, somewhat hidden laundry room, a mini makeover.  You can see by looking at the picture below that while it wasn't a disaster, it was just looking a bit plain and shabby. A coat of light blue paint ( left over from some accents in Karmyn's room make over) did the trick. I also painted the shelves a bright white as they were looking a bit dingy as well.

This space used to be only used as a utility closet...(for some reason) the previous owner had the washer and dryer in the middle of the kitchen instead of having it tucked away in this perfect little nook. With that being said, I decided it would be more practical to just cover some of the bumpy spots left behind in the dry wall with a larger piece of art rather than redoing the existing drywall that no one ever sees except for the one doing the laundry ( that would be me!). 

I wanted to create something in this space that would make me happy and optimistic every time I slid open these doors to do yet another load of laundry.

I chose the phrase "work hard, and be nice to people". I wanted this piece to be very graphic but hand done, not printed. So I worked on the layout and graphics in illustrator then printed each section to scale on 8.5x11 paper for the large canvas. The canvas had lots of texture because it has a few paintings underneath that I have painted over when I get tired of a certain piece. So its recycled! 

Next came the hard part. Using my x-acto (actually its an "olfa" knock off) I cut each letter out, then used the negative space in the paper as a template, laid each page out over the canvas, and painted. It took for-ev-er! You can see the steps below...

 I must say that I am happy with the way it turned out. Its not perfect but I love the distorted edges of the letters that still have some accuracy to them from one of my favorite fonts (BEBAS).

And yes, everytime a do laundry, it puts a smile on my face!

It's my 100th Posting!

 I know it has taken me a while, but I have finally written my 100th post! I feel like I have come a long way and I am so excited about the road ahead. I plan on blogging more and commenting on all of your blogs more often as well. Keep on the look out for more great things from The Post Script in the weeks and months to come!

A busy, busy day.

This is what my coffee table looks like this morning. Im working on a little project that is going to take me a long time but I love working on these little artistic endeavors. Being creative makes me so happy and its been a long time coming! Can't wait to show you the finished project soon!

Sometimes you just have to do...

I love this quote...I needed to be reminded of this a few days ago so I created this inspirational graphic. I always have so many ideas, things I want to accomplish in life but always seem to be waiting. Waiting for perfect timing, circumstances, and money. Well, quite frankly, Im tired of waiting. Im ready to start doing. I know it won't happen over night, but Im getting started today! Ill fill ya in on more later!

An Announcement from Arizona...

I recently had the pleasure of working on a moving announcement for a couple of old friends that I haven't been able to see in awhile. This was an honor for me because of the reason we have been a part was also the reason for the announcement. Kati and Billy are in active duty with the Army. I met them both while working at the 'brush in Kernersville when I first moved to NC...so many great memories! They recently moved back to the good ole US from Korea and needed a card to announce their return!

Katie wanted the cards to embody the beauty of their new home but also be fun and playful. Introducing the popular adobe houses in this region was something she wanted to convey in the prints.

{I actually did an art project back in elementary featuring adobe houses. We made stencils of the adobe homes and used chalk in an exercise that highlighted positive and negative space...I tried to relate back to that technique by playing with the shapes and transparencies.}

Invitation Design: Alaina & Tyler

I had the honor of designing the wedding invitation for one of my best friends, Alaina. She actually got married two weeks before I did and we were in each other's weddings so we got to go through all the craziness together! Like the other elements in her wedding, she wanted the invitations to be simple, yet elegant and to include her key apple green color. My favorite piece in this graphic is the intricate banner at the top that encompasses their initials and is then released into the border that encompasses the body. Im so glad you loved your invitations Alaina! I loved being apart of your special day and Im so glad you were apart of mine!

Coleen & Justin : Wedding Invitation Design

I recently designed these invitations for my cousin Coleen's upcoming wedding. I love the font their names are in...simple but with a fun little detail thrown in. {Its called "New Garden Light" for all those interested!} They were looking for a simplistic design but wanted to definitely use their colors. I love the style of these flowers too....very sixties....they add some fun and happiness to the layout. Just like Coleen :)

Personal Business Card Design

Well even though I do not have my website up yet,  (although I have my domain registered and hosting space acquired, yay!)  I wanted to get started on my business cards so that I can have them in by the time the site is up. Makes sense right? Well,  Im having a hard time figuring out which layout go go with. So I thought maybe y'all can help me decide. What do you think?

I love simple, happy prints. I really enjoy this one...the layout ( it reminds me of one of my graphic design text books) and just the simple message. {Plus who doesn't love Helvetica?}

I found this on Design Milk's post today...and you can download it for free! A studio called Bisgràfic

came up with the idea to create positive, well designed posters in the name of, well, positivity and design! All the posters are free to download ( many are in foreign languages) and all share this beautiful font, grid back ground, and the black on white composition...you can even download them as wallpapers for you iphone..touch...pad...you know ;) Click here!

Designer Highlight: Lisa Wong Jackson

I stumbled across Lisa Wong Jackson's Custom Design + Stationarysite, Good on Paper, a few months ago and still cant get it out of my head!

Ive always loved cards and stationary since I was a little girl {I used to dream of working as a card designer for hallmark, a very long time ago :)}

Lisa's work is so...so beautiful! I love her use of white space, her magical line drawings, and her organic renderings. {I also love the fact that she has a boston terrier and his name is pixel :)}

Professional Portfolio: Cafe Ristretto

This was a free lance project I did in the fall of 2009 (during my thesis... eek! talk about being overloaded!) for my current employer. This contract job landed my full time position with the company.

I was asked to look at an existing kiosk type coffee shop in the PTI airport in Greensboro. It was previously apart of a nation wide chain that was now being bought individually and therefor they wanted to breakaway from that existing look that connected them with their past.

Here are some of the images of what I was working with...

This is the design I came up with..Not a huge change. But subtle hints make a difference. There were also changes that needed to happen to allow a better work flow that required moving around equipment as well as upgrading some of the machines.

The seating area across from the small cafe was also considered in the face lift design...

This was my idea for a more modern space... New furniture, updated paint scheme, some contemporary light fixtures, and a few nice pieces of art.

Branding Identity & Logo exploration was also part of this job since the company was breaking out on their own from the former chain's identity. I tried to incorporate coffee culture in the name without being so cliche. 

The final logo and name came down to Cafe Ristretto. Ristretto is the Italian word for "limited" or "restricted". In the art of espresso, it is the way to pull a short shot in a quicker manner than normal so that a limited amount of water is extracted through the grinds and has less contact. This produces a bolder flavor in the espresso, resulting in a fuller bodied and flavorful shot.

The idea of ristretto is embodied in this fast moving environment of an airport coffee shop because unlike most coffee shops, where people come in and relax, taking their time drinking their hot beverages, this a quick transaction while the customers are usually rushing off to make a flight. So the cafe has a limited amount of time to make that great impression on the visistors, but the experience should be a flavorful one, that in its concentrated state, leaves a positive mark on the users.

Colorful Seasons

I made this little rotating color scheme for a client's custom coffee label today. She wants her labels to change with the season ( and the colors in her logo) i love it. so festive. So im using this little chart. I saved it to my desk top and i keep getting drawn back into it. I love these colors... separate, together, in their "seasons", or  in their rows, mix and match, pick and choose. they all look yummy! Isnt color wonderful? I cant wait to start painting!

its a new year!

Its a New Year! (and i am so excited about it!) Although 2010 was the greatest year of my life...{graduated college in december of 09, got a full time design job, engagement on valentine's, wedding in august, and bought first home...which happens to be my dream-house!}...I have high hopes for 2011. I love the fresh start of the year {resolutions, dreams, prayers}.  I always look to the new year to start new things {diets, jobs, projects} like many others I am sure. Im hoping this year that Ill be able to really build up my business, launch 2 websites {portfolio & new shop}, and blog daily ( hopefully ill make new blog friends as well!) So heres to 2011...Cant wait to see what is yet to come!

Thinking about our first Christmas Dinner as "The Wilson's'"

Im so excited about Matt and my first Christmas together as a family! This will also be my first Christmas away from my tennessee family...sooo for our Christmas dinner Im thinking Ill bring some of our traditions to Nc! This is what I have so far for our Christmas feast...A Roasted Chicken..Greek Style with potatoes, onions, and carrots ( Ive never cooked a chicken like this before! eek!), homemade yeast rolls (yeah that means from scratch!), Matt's Mom's famous "Cranberry Crunch",  Matt & Em's greek green beans, parmesan corn on the cob, Uncl Pete's Blueberry salad, and Grannie's sweet potato casserole! Itll probably grow but this is it for now...but what to do for dessert?! Thats my favorite part! I think Im just exhausted from designing the meal...oh and the breakfast were planning too...Monkey Bread (Davis Christmas morning tradition, Country Ham with  red eye gravy (Matt's tradition which he will be conducting), eggs, bacon, and sausage rolls....whew. Mom how'd you do it all these years!? Ill miss you this Christmas Day...But so excited about seeing you on Monday!
