Wingback Repurposed

I am so excited! I just got my wingback in from the upholsterer and I love it! She did a great job, and while I originally started this up-cycle project as a learning  exercise, Im glad I forked over the money and let a professional work her magic. I did paint the legs myself!

It all started when I found this old clunker at Goodwill a few months ago for $15. I could not say no!

I decided I would learn the art of upholstery via my friend Ashley, who is a very skillful craftsman in this category. So I started the long, tedious, and sometime painful chore of stripping the old chair down to the frame. This took...forever. I suggest you try this at some point in your life. I was not a fan. But I knew it had to be done. There was no way I was keeping any of that old batting, fabric, or foam. Gross.  If you ever have any "found treasures" reupholstered, I strongly suggest talking with your upholsterer in detail. Many will only upholsterer over the old... which in my opinion is gross. There are all kinds of gross little creatures, smells, and dust living under the fabric. Plus, cushions break down over time and the form can get smushy due to that. So while your going through the hassel...do it right.

Then came the process of fabric shopping. I love taking advantage of living in the furniture capitol of the world. So much upholstery is done right here in the triad, mainly High Point of course, which makes the discount fabric stores amazing! 

I went a little overboard as usual and found some great prints....but settled on this wonderful Robert Allen geometric linen.

Well, turns out my bestie Ashley got the chance to move out West so I had to cut my upholstery lesson short. But there's plenty of time to learn! After calling around, I took my chair to a local upholsterer and she had it back to me in less than 2 weeks! Check out the transformation!

Aaannnddd Sold!

Another one of my vintage beauties is going to its new home this week! This unique MCM plate, "Blue Heaven", is being shipped off to New Hampshire today!

Hope they enjoy it as much as I did. Now i have more room for some treasures. Time to go hunting!

Another Etsy Success!

This cute little set is heading out to California tomorrow! It's Pyrex at it's best with adorable shaped mugs, milk glass, and a classic retro motif with great color.

Sold: Smokey Glass Mugs

These bad boys are headed out to Brooklyn, New York this week. I've recently fell in love with "smokey glass". I've got another set of 2 heavy pedestal glasses in the shop and just acquired a set of smokey glass goblets this week so there will still be some smokey glass representing in the shop. These little mugs are petite and delicate yet their smokey quality adds some grounding. I love the color and the unique attribute of a translucent mug.

Oh hello.

Unfortunately I have not written a post in almost a month. I must admit I have felt quite guilty about it and have had nothing but the best of intentions to create one. I have had soooo many different things going on and Im excited to catch you up on it one post at a time :)

To start us off, I thought I would share some of my favorite thrift finds over the last few weeks.

I found this little beauty and was so excited because I never find cool chairs! This one is great because while the seat will definitely have to be reupholstered, the rest is in great shape and I LOVE the high back with the amazing ladder back.

Next up we have a nice little modern end table. Im always attracted to the double decker variety but they are usually quite heavy and ornately carved so I was thrilled to find this simple one that has zero ornamental extras, some nice angles, slightly tapered legs, and a killer walnut finish ( Im 99% convinced that it is solid).

Over the past few months, I sadly must admit that I have become incredibly addicted to collecting plates, mugs, pyrex, and any type of associated dish ware. While I am working on this compulsive behavior, I have found some pretty sweet pieces. I got all of these below in the same night. :) oops.

Lastly, I found this awesome wing back chair at Goodwill for only $15. How could I have passed that up? I love this chair. I have been wanting a wingback for quite some time now and Im so glad to have discovered this guy. I will be having him reupholstered and I'm contemplating painting the legs.
